Hi all:
Although I have been a die-hard Yamaha rider for about 15 years now, I am just moving up in sled class. Tomorrow, I am picking up a 2002 SRX with 368 miles.
It is all stock with the exception of 144 studs.
I am new to the forum but have found it to be a great source of information.
I was wondering if anyone could offer sugestions for upgrades, either suspension, engine, exhaust, or cosmetics; either aftermarket or factory? I have been reading a lot of posts but would still appreciate any input.
Think Snow!
Thanks in advance,
BigMan76

Pretty darn good sleds the way they are, but if you ride in the rough stuff do as yamvip said and long travel the rear, makes a huge difference in ride quality. Other than that, get some good clutching in that bad boy and let her rip.

I left mine completely stock and out of 6600 miles, maybe six or seven hundred hurt me due to the skid. I my opinion, it really doesn't necessarily need clutched. They're extremely responsive in all phases of the throttle with the stock clutching. As long as you ride relatively smooth trails, there isn't a thing I'd do to it. Some may say skis, but my stockers worked fine for all those miles...........never hit a tree or missed a turn.
Keep an eye on the exhaust valves and clean them every 500 miles or so to guarantee they're working good. This will also allow you to check for any cable 'pull throughs'.
One last piece of advice.................Hang on!

DUDE, I HAVE A 2002 SRX I BOUGHT NEW. SLED IS A TERROR. JUST HAULS. I RUN IT ON A 1/2 MILE DRAG STRIP, REAL TUFF TO BEAT. LONG LEGS. DO WHAT EVERYBODY SUGGESTED ABOVE ESPECIALLY CLEANING POWER VALVES, BUT ALSO RUN BEST GAS YOU CAN FIND TO KEEP DCS LITE OFF. !! 3:16 (tony)

if your racing it, Bender makes a good clutch kit for it, mine has it with heavier weights and spring and it just hauls a**. I have beat mach Z older ones, F7 are close, my buddy has a ZR 800 and at 3/4 i blow him away. u could down jet it one, add some reed,a new track. i got the rip-saw(1 1/4) and it is awsome. if u want speed for the lake i wouldn't go over 1 inch for your track, u will loose top end.

I put a heel clicker clutch kit in mine with a bender helix. The bender ts3 transfer rods work great also.Mine ran great, the dcs light did come on during long runs on cold nights,if you want to avoid that run the 2001 srx jetting.

Bender, Hauck, etc.
SO I have been cruising the web after the 12 hr. round trip to pick up the '02 SRX today, trying to get back to normal.
What are thoughts as to mods by Bender, Hauck, etc.? I went to the Bender site and they seem to have the whole package, as close to "bolt on and go" as it might be (i.e. cold air kit, power clutch, silencer). Hauck has some great stuff too; through in the aluminum mods by CB Performance, and I am exhausted thinking about the options.
What are thoughts on mixing/matching Bender, Hauck, or any of the other mod shop parts?
I have to say a BIG Thank You to all in this forum. This site is one of the greatest that I have possibly stumbled across on the net.

as far as clutching goes, I recommend that you build your own. You will get it done alot cheaper, and with just as big of gains if not more. There are plenty here to help you out with clutching, turk, junior, srxspec, etc... Also, as far as mods go, I would first reccomend transfer rods, then a good track (assuming the srx doesn thave either of them.) After that, youc an worry about clutching, head work, porting and such. Just my .02
It already has a rear heat exchanger on it, a huge one

It should already have the large style curved rear heat exchanger.

I would encourage you to ride the sled in stock form first just make sure your powervalves are adjusted properly and clean as someone else stated. Transfer rods are worth it if you want to drag race they will help you out of the hole. I think the big thing with this sled is traction,If you get on good hardpack with good traction you will be out in front of a LOT of other sleds on the lake.

Heat Exchanger Protector
Just wanted to know; did the 02 SRX come with a heat exchanger protector as well; or was that an aftermarket add?
Thanks.
