Im looking at a 98 SRX wich obviously has the blue tunnel, Does anyone ever touch up their running boards where your feet rub the paint off? How did it come out and what paint did you use? I like my stuff to look nice and If I got this sled, I would wana make it look really nice and thats about the only area that needs attention.
Can I buy Yamaha blue in a spray can? Are the shades of blue different from year to year? Just wana hear your guys input!
Thanks

most people strip the paint and polish it to a mirror finish

Thought about doing the same thing.... looks great.kysledneck said:bed liner! BLACK!
Did you have it done, or grab the kit from the parts store and do it yourself?
the cans of yamaha spray paint are around 30.00 each!!!! TWO STEP PAINT= 2 cans.. i think its called deep purplish blue metallic.... There is a way to prep the aluminum that YAMAHA DOES NOT DO, that will make the paint stick...Something like bare metal or bare aluminum primer!!!! It does have a name but I cannot remember it!!!! DGIF or something like that!!! You could always cover them up with the running board protectors that Yamaha sells!!!! Gary Oles nosboy

I had an SRX and if I remember right, the running boards were a flattened, or semi gloss finish. At least they weren't as shiny as the hood. You can't just paint directly to alum. you should either use two step cleaning and etching process, or put down a self etching primer, the latter is quicker and easier. I would think that Yamaha uses a chemical two step cleaning and etching process in manufacturing, or it would blow off in sheets. I think the wearing issues are more linked to not enough paint film thinkness, and possibly the paint used isn't as durable as it could be. It doesn't peel, it just wears off. But I doubt very much if they don't do anything. Sand it , get a good self etching primer, and if you want to do it right, get a sealer, then topcoat it. Hope that helps.

go to v.i.p. car parts and excessories. i just did the same thing to my 99 srx and was very pleased with the paint that i found on the shelf there. its a high temp paint and its made by plastic-kote part # 102 called anodizit blue for about 5.00 buck s a can. you cant go wrong. next i let it dry and got some the pads that stick down to protect as they are see through it looks pretty sharp. found this color while i was using it to paint my intake for my mustang and saw what a nice yammi match it was! hope this helps.
