Was talking with my buddy last night, he's got an 02 srx. Told me to do whatever I could to make this thing handle for $1500. Looking for any good ideas. Was thinking maybe a cat skid, track, and longer shock setup on front. Obviously, this thing rocks on nice trails, but beats the crap out of you riding hard on any bumps and it fights a 'bit' of a loose condition (imagine that). Any ideas would be appreciated and I'll keep you posted. He's got an 02 Viper he's happy with, but looking for something a little different.

skid, shocks, track, skis.if you get a used skid you should be able to do that for close to his $1500 plus your beer money for doing it for him

you will lose cornering with the cat skid. too much weight transfer all the yime. go with the sc10III like rich said or a edge skid.

if he's happy with the viper, why not just find a set of viper shocks, $500 and call it a day.

Someone on here has a set of elka rear shocks for $650, that and a sway bar from CB you'll have money left for maybe some better skis, or to get you front shocks redone by pioneer or max perf. Maxdlx

call the guys at works, get the long travel kit, about 900bucks or i have new viper replacements for 400 and you could buy a front viper cast section so the fronts would bolt in.
buy wider rods from a sxr
buy a sway bar from a venture(with plastic hardware to match),
viper skis with firecat offset carbides(you will need to drill one hole or relocate one stud)
shim skis so they have equal preasure front and rear
shim all front end and rear skid bushings tight
2in riser wit
stock 98 bars(narrower)with forward facing curves in the ends, use stick on heaters and sportech long grips to slide over them

Thanks for the ideas. I'll look into these. May need some more help later on. Was wondering, are Viper shocks adequate for a big change or how about a complete Viper skid or RX-1 skid. Will any of the geometery change in the skid by lenthening the shocks (anything bind, springs ok?,etc). And Viper springs up front, just a different sway bar, longer radius rods, and gusset to mount shocks?

putting viper shocks in the rear will not change the geometry, just need longer limiters and different control rod spacers to use the added travel.

did you say Handle or Ride, If you want it to handle and ride better, revalve the rears and shorten the center, then install a CB swaybar, if you want it to Ride and he likes his Viper, put a CB swaybar in the Viper and if he like that, then raise his SRX with a sway bar and it will be the same.

Updated Viper shocks in the rear, the longer control rods, mounts to relocate the front SRX shocks(Hauck Perf). I did this to my 2000 SRX and I love it! It's GOT THE POWER I LOVE and now it HANDLES THE CORNERS AND THE BUMPS. A buddy of mine wants the same thing done to his 2000 SRX this fall.

Thanks for the help guys, I think I'm just going to go with a Viper skid as his has seen better days. Probably going with Viper shocks up front. Did searches on everyhthing and have some ?. The stock track (.75) almost touches the front exchangers,do I need to remove them? I understand a different sway bar is needed and shock mounts, but are longer control arms needed or is that only if you want to widen the ski stance. I apprectiate your patience and feedback, I wrench on my own sleds, but they're Arctic Cat and Polaris. I almost forgot to ask, what are the plug gaps supposed to be, I can't find that listed anywhere and his manual is long gone. I do like this site, it's a wealth of information, thanks!
