Helped my buddy buy a 1994 Yamaha V-max 600. Got it home, and found out it had a "munched" piston on the Clutch side of the motor. He replaced it, and it runs better, but will not get over 3500 RPM. He had a shop check the CDI, Coil, and had the carbs overhauled 3 times, and it still runs crappy. We tested both pipes, and the one on the right was running at 400 degrees, while the one on the left was only running at 200 degrees, with about 20% less compression. What's the problem? The repair shop said he's at a loss and doesn't know what else to check except to tear down the motor, and possibly rebuild it. It seems like he's pulling straws at an attempt to fix it. He said when you turn the motor over by hand you can hear a grinding sound inside the crank like a bearing is going out. Would this cause it to run crappy, or would it just be noisy? any ideas or suggestions are much appreciated.
When you put the engine back togather with the new piston and rings , did you put the rings on correct ???? If you have them on upside down...hmmm that might be the problem...just a thought
