Im sure you can also get a gates belt at any Oreillys auto parts store. Otherwise, both belts are made by great manufacturers

I would go with the Carlile Ultramax 3. That is what Carlile recomends for the Yamaha sleds. I spoke with a Carlile rep at a snowmobile show.

the carlile beldt's are really cocsitant on the measurement's and hold up better than any other beldts on my buddies open mod sled a beldt last about 3 1000ft runs and the carslile beldt thew beldt still looks like new after 3 runs.Gates beldts are really hard and if held a constant throotle for periods of time they will actually wear grooves in your primary clutch.

For about $8 more than the Dayco you can go with a Yamaha OEM belt.

Most people Ive talked to swear by Yamaha belts and say that they, "wear like iron".

II Captain, I'll second that all the way. Tore the s#$% out of the clutch on my srx running Dayco belt. Never again !

go with an oem. 8DN is very hard and will last forever, if you need a softer belt with a little more grip go with an 8CH.

yep, stick with stock...

should also note that because the CH is softer than the DN, it will drop your rpms some so you will probably have to remove some weight to run the CH, add some to run the DN (if you are not already set up for the respective belt)

I find I'm running a bit high on my rpm's. About 8500. I know there are a lot of variables but would changing to the softer belt be a good way of lowering rpm's a bit.

you are only about 100 rpms high from where you want to be on the 98-99 srx's. What are you running for clutches, and does it rev 8500 all the way through? You want to rev 8100-8200 out of the hole, and climb up to 8300-8400 on top end. If you are running the stock weights, change the inner rivet to a 4.5g and go with a 52/44 with a green spring wrapped at 60*.

Right now I am running a Dalton 51/43 Helix with Dalton DPY 55.5 weights and a green spring wrapped at 60*. It seems to pull at 8400-8500 out of the hole and then climb to about 8600 on the top. I was going to install a 22t top gear but I guess that will make the problem worse. Maybe I should go back to the stock weights with the 4.5g rivet. What do you think?

go to a steeper helix, such as a 54/44, it will upshift quicker and pull the rpms down.
