I had a blown headgasket at seasons begining,(300miles in)Ive been working on this sled for three weeks, 96'xt600, initially cleaned carbs, replaced headgasket (thin), still had problems getting the sled to fire, replaced coils, re-cleaned the carbs.
I got the sled to start, but it was eradic and backfiring very loudly, my exhaust manifold had some sealant hanging out so i reapplied copper permatex. now i still cant get it started after 50 pulls and my left plug is coated with oil and my right plug has very little. when changing the headgasket, there was no visible damage to the pistons, not even any scoring.
I dont know much about engine/oil injection and im afraid to find a lower seal out. any opinions? im lost

Compression
Spark
Fuel
Tripple check everything.
If you've got a dry plug, either it's firing properly, or it's not getting gas.
I'd squirt some gas in teh jugs and put clean plugs in (not new ones nescesarily) and see what happens. You should get some starting fluid going too.
If it's in an unheated area, possibly you've got some water that froze in the lines or the tank...You'll get it!

try this
Take the gas cap off, hold a hand over it, blow in the fuel tank vent line, and have a buddy pull the rope. Also bypass the tors. Maxdlx ps don't laugh it worked for me

As VMAX John has said check compression, spark and gas.
If compression is low it will not start. Of course you need a compression gauge for this but if you own a sled you should have the gauge.
Removespark plug wire and plug a good clean plug, ground the edge of the plug to a solid groung on you motor and pull. You should have a good clean blue spark.
If you add a little gas to cylinders and it starts right away and stalls after burning that fuel then there is a gas problem.
Do these test and post back results so we can help you out on the next step.

I checked my compression and the cyls were the same. I added some dry gas and i also heated the sled in a neighbors garage over night. still not as much firing after 50 pulls or so. the carbs are clean and set to stock, float height is identical. good spark when grounded to engine. i bypasses the tors and noticed that the screw (idle?) above the tors was not holding the spring together like in the diagram.
is there a recomended height oor screw distance for initial steup of the carbs, i wonder if i am flooding or starving the engine, oleading to the backfiring and engine inconsistancy. once again it seam s one plug has more oil on it than the other.

did you ckeck spark on all cylinders.
If you have compression and good spark when you drop gas in the cylinders it should fire right away.
What was the compression on all cylinders.

i had compression of 127 on one and 136 on another. Anyhow i held down throttle with full choke on and started it after only 15 pulls, after numerous backfires and lots of smoke, i got it to idle down to 1400 and i behaved quite nicely. I guess i had water in my gas or a clog in my fuel lines, because this hasnt missed a beat since it got going again. my tors wouldnt allow the sled to excellerate, so im leaving it bypassed.
if there is a problem with bypassing the tors could some one tell me how to fix or replace it? all of your help has been extremely helpful thank you
