im installing probes on my 2001 SRX the question is WHERE is the best spot to mount.I seam to get a different answer when ever i ask someone. So i called EGT and they looked it up in the yamaha book and said 1.5-1.75 inches from exhaust manifolds, can anyone confirm this for me.

Thanks Brad.. ;)!

That seems close

Mine have got to be furhter away than that......but that does'nt mean it's right!!

2" from the port is about as close as you would want to get. Eitherway get them in and verify your tune with plug color and piston wash and note what your EGT's read. Use them to spot abnormalities.

But 6 inches away from the front of the piston puts the probe in the manifolds and not in the pipe it's self

its ok

they do end up in the manifold, BUT, the manifold is part of the pipe, they will function correctly there. The manifold is long for a reason, if the pipe simply went straight to the exh port/ cylinder face then youd have to rev the srx to about 12,000-13,000 rpm to make peak hp. Remember, the probe is only a tool to help you monitor the situation inside, you still have to read the plugs and wash to see what YOUR paticular number will be on the sled. You may run just fine at 1300 degrees if thats what the piston wash/plugs read then thats your number, if you simply move that probe 3/8" either way you could change the number by hundreds of degrees. There is no set rule, you have to go off the reccomended spec of the egt/probe mfr. Then do the reading(good old fashioned plug reads and piston wash checks in a field, then set your alarm to YOUR number on the sled, no 2 sleds, egt's will be exactly the same with in reason.
