my sx 700 will not start in the cold but it will start right up in my shop i just put a high flow pipe on it and went up one jet size. am i possibly running too lean?

try posting it in the Vmax,SX,SXR section. When you say you put a high flow pipe on you mean a aftermarket silencer or triple pipes?

when you start it in the shop how does it run. Maybe something with the choke. Have you checked and cleaned the carbs.

Stator maybe? Usually the opposite though, starts when cold and not when warm.

I would start with the choke (enriching system). I had the same problem with my 97 SX700 and it was the choke not closing far enough. A simple adjustment and it was fine.

you may need bigger pilots or just to richen the mixture screws, set them at 2.5 turns and see if its better after you clean the carbs, if you put some kind of pipe on it, it will need more fuel down low.

I would say its the aftermarket pipe you got on it... did you have to rejet it?
