I want to swap shocks from either a viper or an srx into my 1997 Vmax XT. So which of them has the same length shocks as mine does? The viper Shocks appear to be longer than SRX shocks and I haven't pulled mine out to compare. I want to go with rebuildable shocks rather than the metal bodied shocks I have. Thanks for any input -Steve

the srx is not long travel.
if you want to long travel your machine you need shocks from a Viper or SXR which are both rebuildable as well.

yes but...
The only long travel SRX was the 98' Mountain SRX (11.5" travel) same setup as the Mountain Max of that era.

But is MY sled long travel? I don't really want to do all the mods to make it long travel ... just need stiffer springs and a rebuildable shock ... wondering if an SRX is a direct donor....
Unless long travel is easy to change to..... I thing I just need longer shocks and longer upper parts of transfer rods in the rear but not sure about the front.... Thanks for the replies

I thought that all XT -XTC models were long travel. Assuming that XT stood for extra travel, and extra travel comfort.

you have nearly identical rear skid of an sxr/viper. shocks should bolt right in and they are rebuildable

but isn't the viper long travel? I am quite certain mine is not long travel ... it seems to have the same amount of movement on the center shock as the SRX which is also not long travel... i saw some viper shocks on ebay and they had another few inches of travel than mine do.
