I've got an 02 SX600/R bone stock and just turned 3500 miles today.My buddy asked me if I had replaced the carbides and when I told him no he was suprised. I had been planning on changing them next fall unless I noticed the sled pushing in corners at some point this winter then I would change them right away. The sled has been corning like it is on rails this winter even through the ice so I figured it was fine. Today as we were loading my sled into my truck my buddy looked at the bottom of my skis and noticed that the skags were worn down almost to the ski. I was amazed as I have been riding aggresively all day for the last three days and have been hugging the right side banks the whole time with no problem. I'm just amazed that the sled is still so stable with such a worn scag and I'm wondering how much of a diffrence I'm going to notice when I put a new set of carbides on.

After all my rambling my question is how often do you all replace your carbides?

I replace them when the carbide is worn to the point that it is no longer effective. Sounds like you have worn the carbide completely off, and almost have the host bar worn away as well. If you've got much bite on ice in this condition, then you have a lot of ski pressure.
Carbides can last years, or be worn out in a matter of hours depending on conditions they are ridden in. You just gotta keep checking.

I've got most of my riding buddies swearing by them. I just repaced a set that had a couple thou on them. The carbide was all there, the bar was shiny. I've seen Woody's, Bottom Line, and Stud Boy gone within a couple hundred miles, and they''ve let me down in the past. With Bergies, you just don't have to worry.
Not that carbide will wear differently, it won't. It's the host bar that holds it in!

If your sled is still hugging corners now with worn bars,,,, put on a new set and slow down a little for a while or you'll be in the rhubarb....Takes a little while to get used to....Bin dare dun dat...

Thanks for all the replys. I will definately take it easy after I put the new set on I can see myself whipping the first corner and falling off the sled doing a faceplant into the snow!

My factory one gave up the ghost at around 1200miles, found out the hard way lucky the 2 small pines were 6 feet apart. I was woopin up on my buddies XC500SP poo and the tempratures dropped and the trails froze up (was ~32*f during the day light), I went to take him on the inside and I just slid right off the top of the corner. Got it home and had nothing but razorblades left for runners. I now have 6" Woody's and they work pretty good, still look after 1000 miles.

I went to my dealers this morning and picked up a set of Woody's for 44.00. I just put them in, first time changing carbides and it was pretty easy, the hard part was getting some air below the ski! I put the sled on an incline to one side and on the weightless side I dug out the snow beneath the ski with a small garden trowel.
Unfortunately I didn't get to test ride it yet but I'm hoping to get out a bit in the A.M.
