1997 700sx, 1 layer head gasket mod tech. page- 150 psi all three cylinders, reed notch per tech. page, jetting stock at 145, 143.8, ad 143.8, tempa flow, primary spring y-s-y 8ab weights 4.5g both holes, secondary green spring at 60 degree twist, helix 51/43 pioneer, 23/40 gearing and 8dn belt, alignment checks out good.

my engagement is about 4500rpm, my shift is 10000, come off the throttle and the backshift is good ( the motor doesn't bog ) back on it, and it goes to 10000rpm...has anyone exrerienced this? and what can i do to get to my peak HP at 8300rpm or is my peak changed because of head gasket mod?

8ab weights are at 50g- turks setup tech page is for 48.6g, I added weight and my rpms didn't go down, do i need a different primary spring?

Something doesn't seem right with your tach readings. The motor should be falling over in a heap at those rpm's. Maybe Turk or others who have seen this before will respond to this post.

ding thanks for the reply, it sure seem to be pulling and i was wondering if the tach was wrong.... I would hold it there for a few seconds not that long..... is there a check for the tach? it sure seems like it must be off...CP

check your primary and if its an old one replace before anything happens also check to see how your belt is and what shape it is ......i also use the ysy spring and never went to 10000 rpms.......if it still does that high of rpms then after a run check your clutches to see if they are hot and if they are your slipping big time......good luck

sol-sask, clutches are warm to the touch, new 8dn belt with 60 miles, i backed my secondary to 50 degrees( to help belt suck down in) saw a little less r's but still banging on 10000 rpm, from 0 to rolling 40 to 80 mash it and it goes to 10000, pulls like mad.....could my tach be off and how can i check it to be sure?

I think what solsask was getting at is if your bushings are worn in the primary, you won't get a smooth shift, which will result in an over rev. Those older sleds need new parts sometimes :)

I just went through mine, it's not hard with the right tools. You can get all the parts from Richmotorsports, or your local dealer. I highly recommend getting into the online parts finder and write down all your desired part numbers, otherwise you'll wind up with half of what you need.

So, 2 bushings, check out your weights and rollers too. If your getting any grooming in your weights, it's time to rebuild, wish I would have caught mine in time.

If your clutch turns out ok, then yes, change out the spring with one for a short cap. Yamaha changed to the longer springs in '00.

I'd bet you could run the stock spring with that combo, it's really not that heavy for your mods. Get it right, and you'll think it's another sled! You're throwing away tons of power.

i checked bushings in the primary and secondary they aren't binding and they look good ( not sloppy), had a friend look it over and he said that my clutches were good and he was stumped on why its over-rev is so high at 10000rpm.....he took it for a blast down the lake and told me it seems like a drag set-up because it pulls hard up through 100mph, gets off the throttle and back on and the backshift is good he feels it needs more weight... I think I can't go any heavier with the 8ab and 4.5g both holes...the only thing I can think of is the springs have to take a set, and also i have to see if my tach is off...thanks for your reply vmaxjohn....CP
