92 Venture XL Steering Problems
I have a '92 Venture XL that has sloppy steering. I can turn the bars an inch or two either direction and the skis do not move. Needless to say this is not much fun to ride like this!
I am looking for any advice or instructions on how to remove this excess play. I do not yet have the shop manual for this machine, but I am putting one on order.
Any ideas?

You probably have a lot of play in the front sissor area. Here's a kit that you can use to take up most of it.

Thanks, I can't really tell where the excess play is at. It seems like there might be some in the transfer bar (?), and in what you are calling the scissor joint area. Is this kit pretty easy to install, or am I going to have to disassemble the struts?

You can wiggle the ski and see how much play you have before the steering linkage moves. This is usually in the scissor and ski mount area. You just have to take the scissors apart and ski off. Do one bolt at a time. You should find a plastic and metal washer on each side. The plastic one is probably shot. You can get new plastic ones from the dealer or just add the ones from the kit. It's kind of a bugger to hold them in place while you slide the other half of the scissor on. You can't just slip the washers in while they are together (and bolt out). While they are apart it's a good idea to clean it up and grease it. If it hasn't been apart in a while it'll be tough getting the bolt out.

Thanks a lot! I'll try taking it apart this weekend and see if I can find a shim kit while in Anchorage next week.
