I have the crank out of my 98 SRX and noticed that on the first 4 bearings closest to the clutch there are 4 circlips. I assume these circlips keep the crank from moving within the cases. The clips only cover 180 deg. on the crank but are able to rotate around. Does it matter what position these are in? You would think there would be 2 at each section for a total of 8 to cover 360 deg.

I always put them on the bottom side (really the top half of the crankcase, but since upside down...) so that you don't have to worry about them moving out of position at all when installing the bottom part of the case on top of it. Does that make sense?

I second yamaholic, I've always just done them in the bottom so I'm not juggling to many things when I'm setting the crank in. make sure the pins are all lined up.

That makes sense. I'll try that. When I split the case the seemed to be parlty on the top and bottom. Kind of half and half.
