i just purchased this 1999 vmax 500, and was wondering if any of you know if this is the official name of the sled, maybe its an sx or something else, im not familiar with the 500's, it does have a battery for electric start. it didnt come with the owners manual so im trying to gather all the info on the sled i can, and if any of you have this sled do u have any decent clutch setups to wake it up a little, or any other little tricks for this sled, even if twin pipes help it out. thanks for any info, i'll post a pic

IronViper, I have the same sled, my wife rides and she loves it! I do enjoy the ride and handling and the best thing to start with is Pic the track, I put 144 1" pics and it helped on the slide around and breaking! I run a set up from the clutching Tech site here on TY.Com. The sled doesn't have big top end but will be a great 90MPH trail sled! Ours came with electric start kit installed also. I enjoy riding that sled and even give up my SRX 700 for some trails! Enjoy Bluebullet

Looks like it is a plain old Vmax, maybe an SX? depending on the travel and the ski stance dimensions.

I too have one which appears the same.... Model is VMax C...... I think all is the same as an SXR or DLX except the shocks are the non rebuildable type in the skid and on the front....
Great sled...I love the way it handles and the light feel to it....Everything about it is great..

That's an XT. SX's were blue and short travel that year. XTC's came with KYB aluminum bodied shocks, I now think the shocks on the XT are better for long term ride comfort. You could get electric start dealer installed on any sled, still can. That's what you've got there. Look at the member's clutch set up area on the Tech Page, and see mine.
If yours is running strong, you should be able to spin 2.4 rivets in both holes. It's a great set up!

thanks guys, i'll check out that setup, it runs pretty good i think for a 500, im coming off my cpr piped viper so its kind of hard to tell, its in mint condition with 2600 miles, looks brand new, no rust in the engine compartment, not bad for 1500 bucks..

Vmax John is correct it is an XT. The SX was blue in 99..
Both are in the pic below.
The XT came with steel ski's. If you change them to plastic it will handle much better.
My 99 SX has 96 studs, camo track, the transfer rods and ordered the 47/41 helix that John spoke about ...Hooks up pretty good in the trail.
