is there a difference between a 500 and a 600 cylinder head for 1997 yamaha twin? ive been told that a 500 head will fit on a 600 is this true. is there any difference? the heads are going to be machined for a big bore kit, i dont know if that will make any difference.

the domes are different, but if they are machining them they may be able to cut them to make them work. You would have to ask whoever is doing the work and see to know for sure.
My big bore twin uses a 500 head. Seems to work just fine.

will the domes from my 600 fit in the 500 heads?
Mine is 500 head that was rechambered to run the 680 stuff that yamaha played with back in the mid 90's. It runs o-rings instead of a head gasket, and is cut with a huge squishband. When I spit an o-ring last winter I bolted the stock 600 head on it and haven't had any problems. I wouldn't do that normally, but we were leaving for Cooke and I wanted to ride it out there. The squishband tightened up some, but I could still run pump fuel.
As far as switching the domes from one to the other I have no clue if that would work.
