What Year SRX to Buy


all are good but '98 & '99 's only have sigle beam headlight. '98 does not have stock tunnel protectors included. stick with '00 & up, better lighting & little faster.
 
I had a 98, and I have an 02. The headlight is way better, and there is a lot of comfort knowing that the DCS is there to protect you during long cold WOT runs. By the way, my 02 is for sale if your interested. Has alot of extras to throw in.
 
01 srx

I personally would recommend the 01 srx, I have one and it seems to be the best. I have talked to guys with 02's and they say on some days the dcs can get really anoying because it keeps cutting them out. I've never had any problems with my 01, so thats why i recommend the 01 srx.
 
First if it is "cutting you out" there is a lean condition happening. So what would you want, a little light to come on that saves your ass or keep going and risk it? I have only had mine come on at about 107-110 mph out on a lake when it was 10 degrees or colder and at that speed you don't notice it, besides this little orange light flashing. This DCS also protects you from predetination from bad gas, which is easily obtained in remote areas. Plus an 02 is worth more than an older model for future trades and sales.
 
01 srx

my friend is the one with the 02 srx and we gas up as the same places and while his is cutting out, mine is going good and nothing has ever happened to my engine. also we raced, both sleds bone stock and i one with the 01 by about a sledlength.
 
The reason the dcs is coming on is the fact his is jetted right on the edge for the most performance. O2's came that way after 00's were jetted that way for increased performance and had burn down issues. 01's are jetted fatter so they didn't get close to those conditions. If you want max performance get an 02 and non oxygenated gas, and it will run awesome. Just because you didn't do any obvious damage(or enough to burn a piston) doesn't mean you are not having pre detination. Everything being equal, he should be running more efficient with a lower chance of burn down or engine damage occuring with the dcs. It isn't the hinderance alot of people are saying it is, just plain safe for the engine. I have never noticed "cutting out" before, just the light flashes at long hard runs of high speeds. I couldn't tell if it was actually slowing down or not, but I know nothing was gaining on me.
 
Well I have two 00' and like them alot. I like the all blue better then the silver. If you jet them accordingly you won't have any problems. :D

my buddy has a 02 and we race all the time. he hates the DCS. i can beat him w/ my 01 buy about a half a sled length till 105 then i smoke him.

the Mountain SRX is a wild machine, rides great, pulls like a sonofabitch, corners just as good if not better than a stock SRX (very well balanced, no oversteer)

00 SRX's are getting fairly cheap, they are jetted one size lean of ideal, leading to potential burndowns

01 SRX is the same as a 00, with BNG's (bold new graphics) jetted 1 size richer, and it had seperate controls for hand and thumb warmers. I believe that 01 also saw an update in the suspension to decrease the wheely and incease ski pressure, that made this machine a real corner carver right from the factory

the 02 SRX is similar to the 01, same badging, but it sports the DCS (detonation control system) which is basicly just a knock sensor with an input into the CDI, stage 1 (predetonation) it will step ignition timing back something like 5 degrees, trying to get rid of the ping, if that doesn't effect it and the ping continues, a rev limiter comes into play, cutting spark back to I BELIEVE 6000 rpm, which brings the engine back into an RPM band with decreased combustion chamber temperatures and should eliminate the ping. stage 1 will just light up the dash LED, stage to (rev limiter) the light will flash and you'll obviosly lose the power and speed real fast.

some people dislike the DCS 'cause it's "annoying" and "always causing problems" personally I think that for a trail sled it's great, on an 00 or an 01 SRX you wouldn't have any warning, your first sign of something going wrong would be the loss in power as 1 cylinder cuts out. the DCS also allows them to get back to the leaner, more powerfull jetting of the 02 SRX without having burn down issues.


there's pretty much an SRX for everyone, personally 99 and 00 are the years I wouldn't take, but that's preference, I like the look of the 98's with the black pans and I love my mountain SRX, I also enjoy the DCS on the 02's, but in my experience, the 01's are the ones on the grass that everyone is afraid of. or rather MOST afraid of
 
I have to be honest....I have a 2002 srx..its ported, has v-force3 reeds..heel clicker clutch...cold air kit and is rejetted......I was riding with a 2002 viper and a 2003 zr900.....It was a coldnight, my light came on and both the viper and zr900 melted down! I know for a fact that if I had not had the dcs...I would be out in the garage replacing the pistons!.....Don't get me wrong....The other srx's are great sleds...but I will go with the 02! :beer:
