Just got a new viper, it has about 30 miles on it the secondary clutch has between 1/8-1/4 inch of side freeplay. Is this normal or does it need to be shimmed more, there are already two shims in it.

Confused in Wyoming :die:

Its normal. Some people prefer to positively locate their secondary using extra shims. If you do this make sure your clutch offset is right on.

yes it is called a floating system, and it is only there because dealers don't want to take the time to properly shim the secondary to lock it in at the correct offset. The floating system is supposed to allow the secondary to move into proper alignment with the primary for the most efficiency. However, logical thinking will tell you that that will not always happen. What do i do? Get the offset perfect and shim it into place, that way it is always spot on and you are getting maximum power transfer. ;)!

the offset is set with the secondary against the bearing and the slop should feel like there is just 1 or 2 shims missing, not 1/4"
