OK, I will try to brief:

I have an 02 Viper, thing worked great my first season on it as my first brand new sled ever.

Went to Gaspe last year, last day of the trip the motor let go. Got back to the states and took it to my dealer. Rebuilt the motor (three piston and rings) under warranty, this was in late Febuary. Took a few weeks so it was mid March before I got the sled back. At this point I had ~4500 miles on it. Dealer says an oil line was caught under an enging mount when assembled at the factory. The dealer charged me ~$400 for adjusting the power valves and cleaning the carbs, I said ok, no big deal. $400 for 4500 miles no worries.

Late March I took the sled out in VT for a 100 mile trip and then summmerized it by fogging engine and stabil in the gas and a total greese and silicon job.

Took the Sled out just this past Christmas to VT and did about 200 miles with no issue...

Put new Hyfax on and head to St Zenon for the week of Presidents day. 90 miles into our week long trip and the engine stopped working. Took it to Gregoire Sport (Supposedly the #1 Yamaha dealer in Canada) and they determine that two pistons are cooked and the crank is shot. They stated that the prior dealer forgot to tighten two of the three carb boots and it leaned it out. I was only doing ~60MPH when it stopped on me, but it was cold.

Well 5 days later with 1 day left on my trip they machine was back together again. I paid Gregoire Sport $350 US to clean the power valves again and clean the carbs again (only 300 miles since the last service???). Headed out on her and 60 miles in she shut off again. I was doing ~50MPH this time. Went back to the dealer and they told me to leave it for a few days with them!!! HELLO, I GOTTA GO HOME AND BACK TO WORK! :x

So, at this point Victor at Yammi is absolutely worthless, telling me to tell them to ship the sled back to me. LOL, unreal...

I take the sled immediately to my dealer and he says no worries we will take care of it. Leave the sled there on January 19th. Yamaha says take it apart and fix it under warranty again. Dealer finds it needs two more pistons and...........another crank........... and a powervalve.... WOW! So the dealer gets the machine back together last week and runs some diagnostics gives them to the tech at Yamaha and the oil flow is not up to snuff! So, they now have a new oil pump on order and will assemble it again and retest.

I am so pisssed... We have about a 12 week season her in the North East and my damn sled has been tied up now for 5 weeks. What is Yammi going to do for me??? Fine fix the sled, fine give me $300 in reimbursement for the rental sled that cost me $380. But what about my down time???

I am still waiting for a call back from Victors Supervisor.
I want them to take this lemon and give me a blue book value credit towards a new 2005 at dealer cost!

Is that a reasonable demand??

What would you guys do?? :?:

Depending on the laws in your state, they be required to do so by law. They have done exactly what you suggest many times in Michigan, but we do have the lemon law. I would just keep calling Yamaha Customer support, or better yet get your dealer to go to bat for you. Make sure they are reviewing the entire case.

BTW This is not typical Yamaha quality.

Thanks Ding, I will call the State of Mass where I bought the sled to see if they have a Lemon Law applicable to snowmobiles or liesure vehicles.

I bought the sled at a dealer in Mass but relocated so now I have a dealer in CT that has been doing all the work. I honestly don't think its the dealer. I think its Yamaha, the parts procurement process, the warranty claims process, the whole thing. I thinks its absolutely absurd that my sled should be tied up for half the season!

What if I bought a brand new car and it broke down after 10K miles and it took the dealer 6 months to repair it? That would be out of the question! I vowed never to buy another SkiDoo because of these same reasons related to customer service... I may be forced to write off Yammi as well.....

step softly

Bad terrible chitty luck, for sure. You seem to have found an understanding, if not partially incompetent dealer, but they seem to want to play ball with you. Many guys in here have had similar problems and the dealer has told them to get bent, or worse. I think if I were in that situation, I would have course been pissed but making demands of rentals, downtime, etc is pushing your luck. You got a lot of miles on it, and they are helping you. If you want to leave Y after all this, dont look back, even though you seem to have had a bad string of luck, they are still helping. I wouldnt push it. Being miserable with a giant will only get you so far.
