I need to replace the belly pan on a '96 Phazer. It calls for 30 rivets. I was wondering if anyone would recommend a rivet gun and rivets.
I would like to use stainless steel or aluminum to avoid rust. Also, I picked one rivet up from the dealer (for $1.07!) as an example.
Home Depot has nothing which even comes close in size. The rivet is large!
Any recommendations?
Thanks.

If you have a harbor freight they have a nice one for $73 on sale.it will do rivets up to 1/4" which are huge.same one i use and works great.a cheap source for rivets would be a endries or fastenal business.look in the yellow page's and you should be able to find one near you.

I used large headed aluminum about 3/16" and backer plates where I needed them. Fastenal is a great source for rivets.

betheviper has the same style of rivet that Yamaha uses. Ordinary ones will not hold. Whatever you do, buy, rent or borrow a power riveter. That $79 deal would get my attention. Just replaced mine for $150.

Id see if you can rent a pneumatic rivet gun. I just have the hand squeeze rivet puller, but you dont want to use one of those if you have 30 rivets.
Id use the same rivets that Yamaha uses. Ive reads posts on other forums of people who used cheap rivets and they dont hold up very well. Id also make sure they are stainless.
