I brought my sled to the dealer to get the clutches set up because it was over reving a little. I got a call back and they said they couldn't get the rpms right because they think something is wrong with the crank. The sled seemed fine when i was riding it. They said that the compression is good, but yet they said they took the heads off and the pistons and heads have scratches, not the cylinders though. They are saying it is the crank. I said i didnt beleive them, so they said come see for your self. gonna go see tommarrow. Any ideas or opinions?

sled

I cant get pics but i'll give a detailed report and compare the pistons to ones on the piston diagnostic page.

no

I didnt tell them to do anything but clutching and all of a sudden they decided to take the heads off for some reason and they find that. I'm going to see it today.

They should not have touched the engine then without your authorization. Go pick it up, and don't pay them a cent, they are bilking you. Man, I hate dealers who think that customers are just sheep to be sheared!!!

verdict

heres the verdict. The mag piston is slightly melted but the rings are still on and no damage at all to the cylinder. The center piston is perfect in the middle but all around the egde of it is flaked off, but besides that it looks like a good piston. Slight damage to the nikasil near the exhaust port. The piston also has a line down the side that looks like a seizure but is not. Finally the pto is perfect.

that is the verdict of the damage, what the cause of the problem has not yet been found. How hard is a crank seal to replace? Is that the seal between the top and bottom end?

motor

they are going to tear it down. The sled had aftermarket pipes, uni pod filters, v force reeds, and a boost bottle. This occured in warm +20 weather, and the sled ran fine in -20.

revving

I am assuming now that the overrevving was at an idle not at shift RPM. I also was wondering why the dealer took the motor apart for the latter. Now I see why they did what they did. It appears that maybe you do have a good dealer. They could have looked down the spark plug hole and seen the damage, so they took it apart so it would be easy for you to see.

sled

they were testing the sled after some clutching work and after 65 mph it sounded like it was really rich or a fouled plug, so he pulled over and checked the plugs and found some flakes on one of them. It ran fine, just not over 65 mph.
