From what I've been told, it was the 88s that had the frothing problems That was the first year they went to the round slide carbs and I guess they had some issues. I understand the placed large magnets on the float bowls to stop them from vibrating.
A friend of mine used to be a Yamaha mechanic, and now runs his own Mortorsports business, and he suggested that I stick with my butterfly carbs on my 87 Exciter. I never had any problems and I sold the machine with 11, 500 Km on it!!
Cheers,
Len
P.S. If you know anyone looking for and exhaust or carbs, pleassde let me know.

On Another note why did they switch from butterflys to round slide carbs?

The round slides perform better than the butterfly carbs. I don't think there is a sled made today with butterfly carbsd?? The round slides are also a little easier to work on (IMHO).
