How can I tell if I have nikasil cylinders or not. I have a 1992 Exciter II LE which originated from the Sports Shack in Minot North Dakota , I now have it in Saskatchewan Canada. It is a USA model. I know that the Exciter SX had the nikasil lining but someone was trying to say that mine has it also. Is there any way to tell without pulling the heads of. I can look through the exhaust ports and the carb ports and see the pistons and part of the cylinder. Is the cylinder number different that is stamped on the out side of the pot.

take the exhaust off, reach in thru the exhaust port with a magnet and see if there's a steel liner in there.
would be better to take the head off to check for the liner (it's planely visible), but you could do it thru the exhaust port if you had to.
steel liner = no nicasil
no steel liner = nicasil

A magnet still sticks to the wall of a cylinder that has nikisil. I was at the Yamaha shop today and tried this.
