Anybody ever put a reverse kit on a SRX? I've got a bender can & I've checked stock gear box part #'s they are the same for MM & the SRX & looks like there's room with the can. I just wonder if the smaller chain would handle the SRX power. I'm running a 144" 1.5" Camoplast Crosscut long travel rear with viper trailing arms long travel Works Shocks. The reverse sure would be nice when we're out boondocking.

The reverse fits (Just) with my stock can. I don't think yours can be any bigger. I used a viper kit which had the same type gear and chain as the 00-02 srx. Go for it. It's not that hard. Follow the directions in the tech section.

I put the reverse in my 01 SRX then tried to put the bender can in with it.
That didn't work out to well because I didn't move the coolant tank like some of the other guys do
The can will fit, but you would have to move / modify the linkage (the way I did mine)
I went with the stock muffler, It was tight, but it fits

Also, what kit depends on what year SRX you have.
If you have a newer one, go with the Viper kit that has the same tooth count, lower HYVO gear and keep your top gear and chain

It was worth all the money, just taking it off the trailer

I put one on my 98,the kit is from a mountain max with 13 wide gears and I did have to modify the linkage a bit by mounting it in front of the chaincase instead of the back and in doing so I had to put a spacer in between the frame and the linkage bracket.I too have a can on mine an MBRP one.

Just a couple more questions. Will the viper kit work on my 98? & what's the difference between the Viper & Mtn Viper kit? The bottom gear? I'd like to stay as close to 1.90:1 as possible. Thanks for the responces the info is a great help.

If you have 98, you don't want a Viper reverse kit.

You do need to know how many teeth on your stock gears to pick a kit

As SRX MAINE said. The viper kit will work if you want to change your top gear and chain. I put a mtn viper kit on my 01 srx. The bottom gear was 1 tooth bigger (39). I don't think all the mtn viper kits have the same bottom gears though. If you go that route ya better check what is has.

Thanks again for all your help. The one thing I can't understand is: with all those Yamaha golf carts running around for decades with the reversing ignitions, Why wasn't Yamaha the first to put it on their sleds instead of the last if they ever do? Makes you wonder don't it!

Good point, they really should've been the first to have it. Its not going to happen now though, with no new two stroke offerings from them :o|

part #

What is the part number for the viper reverse kit? I'm looking at adding reverse to my 2001 SRX.

srx reverse

go on ebay there is usually a couple of them at any given time used, new ones off of sx's, sxr's, vipers etc. I've bought and installed about six of them on srx's off of ebay and saved between 200$ and 300$ each really cool install on a srx :WayCool:

Yes, that will work. It may have a different number of teeth on the bottom gear which may change your ratio a bit. My reverse kit came with a 39 tooth (stock srx 38 ) which worked with my stock 70 link chain. If it's a 37 you'll need a 68 link chain. The kit uses your existing top gear and chain.

SRX Reverse

It is a 39 tooth kit so I should be all set. I'll try this during the off season. Thanks all your help.

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't the chain and gears a different style on an 03 sx viper than a 98 srx? 700

DJ094, your 01 SRX should have a 38 tooth HYVO lower gear.
Go with the kit that has the same gear. There are two part numbers for Viper that will go. One has a 39 Hyvo & one has a 38 Hyvo..
Good luck!

DJ094,
The 38T Hyvo reverse kits is: 8EK-W4759-10-00 REVERSE GEAR KIT
The 39T Hyvo reverse kits is: 8EN-W4759-00-00 REVERSE GEAR KIT

You can double check, but the 8EK was the one I used on my 01 SRX
