Is 22mm the correct setting for my 97 700SX oil cable?? I know its listed on the belt cover or under the hood but I am not close to my sled and I want to make a guage at work today. So when i get there i can check it. My sx uses a lot of oil I may set it a bit leaner, maybe 25mm. I'm using Klotz right now.

I have a '00 700 SxR. the Ymaha shop manual calls for 19-21mm gap. The Supplement calls for a 21-23mm gap. I am running amsoil and now have set it at 24mm as at 22mm I was going through 48 ounces for 10 gallons of fuel-moderately aggresive trail riding. I believe that was 22 to 1 ratio.
Now at 24mm it seems realistic. I think you will have to see what is appropriate for the type of oil you use and what your sled wants. On my cat years ago when I switched to Amsoil the amount used shot up DRAMATICALLY. I had to change the settings quite a bit to get it back.

On Hartman's site he recommends 25mm. In my Clymer manual it says
22-24mm. I decided to set mine at 24mm and it seems to be just fine.
As long as you're using a quality oil you shouldn't have any problems,
and Klotz is a good oil.

Make sure you follow the manual adjustments for you seld but....

Set your idle speed to specification (prior to throttle free play).
Set your throttle cable free play to specification.
Set your oil pump cable on the long side for lower consumption.

Too much throttle cable free play and oil pump set correctly will still use too much oil.
