Hey Gang, After installing a ripsaw track last season, my 99 sx 600 overreved quite a bit. So here are the changes made, 8ca's w/.8 in the tip, helix 51/43 and silver secondary spring. Not sure about the twist of the secondary, but one is definately in the #3 hole on the helix. Only revs to about 8300 rpm's. No problems last season except the underrev.

Rode Thursday on an old belt and had alot of belt squeal at idle. Installed a new belt Friday, alot less squeal but still having squealling problems. I put about 100 miles on the new belt Friday with proper breakin. I also noticed an overrev say from 15 to 35 mph. While cruising, it seems to rev up to 6500 or so and settle back down.

I do plan on checking clutch alignment today, hopefully that's the cause to the squeal.

Here are my questions:

1. If I take weight out of the tip and add it to the rear hole will that help bring the rpms up to 8500-8600?

2. With these clutch changes, is the slight overrev at lower speed normal?

3. What exactly do the numbers in setting the secondary spring mean and how do they work? Different holes combinations = more side belt pressure and vice versa?

Sorry, but new at this modification thing. Kinda wish I would have stayed with that crappy stock track.

Thanks for helping a neophite.

Silver spring at 60 is a little too much as are those 8ca,s. You should be using 8ab,s. Try a green secondary spring at 60 degree wrap.Hole #3 helix & hole #3 in the secondary shive.

On my 96 V-Max 600 XT the belt squealed alot at idle. I changed the three "wear" screws in the secondary and the squealing was gone:). You can change them without removing the secondary, kind of hard to reach the screws but no problem at all.

Just wanted you to know:).
