wife wants her sled to have more get up and go, but not crazy.
doing head gasket mod on her 01 600 sxr, there are no rivets to drill out , can I just drill out the press marks and have everything ok, or should I find thinner gaskets, from somewhere?

drill it out....just take your time. The use gasket spray on both sides of the gasket. Are you putting one ;ayer or two.

Well, if you trust yourself A LOT... this is what I did because I only had a big power drill. I used a flat surface (metal) and used a nail and hammer to distort the press marks enough that the gasket let go. I'm not sucking any air or antifreeze into the cylinders, so the gasket is fine... but if I were to do it again, I would probably find a small cordless drill. However as the gasket was out i was looking to find any alternative methods of taking off some of the layers. The pressed portion of the gasket hangs over the cylinder, so, since there is no longer any purpose to this part of the gasket after you've taken it apart, i would just use a pair of tin snips and be very careful not to bend the gasket. If you use this method, only cut off the "rounded" part that contains the pressed portion of the gasket. However... i DO think that Yamirider's way is the conservative and safest way to go as it is the most proven so far.

ok I will drill out the press marks, being very careful when I do. I will be going with two layers the same as my 700 when I did that thanks for the help.
