is aluminum that came from a piston that is stuck on the head hard to get off or even possible to get off? Also is it safe to run a head that has a little bit of nicks in it, after it has been smoothed a little but the nicks are still there? any loss in performance or anything? let me know

In theory it should be replaced. Any "edge" will be a spot for pre-ignition to develope. If you do "remove" all signs of pitting, gouging, whatever, you usually remove enough material to change the compression ratio. That being said, I reused the ones on two of my Phazers with no problem. I guess sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.....

Usually you can sand the piston material off, without hurting the nicasil as it is a softer material. Are the nicks really in the cylinder, or are they in piston material melted to the cylinder?

pistons
extrememly lucky as my dealer stated, there is a little melted alluminum on one of the heads but absolutely no damage to any of the cylinders. The other head has a couple little nicks in it and the 3rd one is all set because nothin melted.
