I've got a 98 700 sx with 5300 miles on it and ready for a suspension overhaul. I replaced the w-arm with a reinforced one from Maximum Perf. and new bushing front and rear suspension. I came across a set of stock 2002 Viper shocks that I would like to put on this sled to increase the travel of the suspension. Has anyone done this and are there any other things that need to be done besides adding the longer limiter straps to the center shock. Am I ok with the stock trailing arms? I'm looking for any suggestions to get me another 5000 miles. Got kids and I'm gonna watch this 4-stroke revolution evolve.
Thanks for any advice in advance..

well

you will need longer rad rods and sterring rods. It has been hashed over, some say new trailng arms some say no. I say try it with the ones you have and if it don't work change it. I have a set of wide rad rods, but no steering rods. If you need em email me or pm me. Maxdlx

Thanks maxdlx. Looks like a project over the summer. However, Can I install the Viper rear shocks, longer limiter straps, 7.5 mm spacer in control rod then ride this thing without changing the front suspension? Will it still handle ok? The front is still the stock 7" travel KYB's and radius rods. I would like to try this next weekend if possible. Thanks again.

viper shocks on 98sx

In response to your question about putting viper shocks in a 98 sx....no problem. You need moutian srx limiter straps. The rest will bolt right in provided you have both the centre and rear shock. Just finished testing the set up on my 98 srx this weekend. I am still fidding with it but a good starting point would be rear shock in middle full rate adjuster position and 10cm bottom nylon spacers on the transfer rods.I may still go smaller on the lower nylon spacers yet. You did not mention if the viper shocks you have are the ones that everyone complained were too stiff or if they are the updated viper shocks. I am working with the stiff set....thought they would work well on an srx. hope this helps...good luck.
