Coolant light issues on my 2000 SRX

Hi everyone,
This is my first post on this board, as I just purchased my 2000 SRX. The sled is in great shape, and it has about 1,100 miles on the clock. I rode it for the first time on Saturday for about 20 miles or so. The power was great and the sled rode perfectly. The only issue was that the coolant light was flickering on and off for the entire ride. The light never stayed on for longer than a few seconds at a time, but the flickering was almost constant. At one point I checked the level of coolant, and the antifreeze was fine. However when I took off the cap, some pressure was released. After I put the cap back on and started it, the light stayed off for a few minutes of riding. Any ideas as to what could be wrong with the sled? Is there possibly an air bubble in the system? How do I check the sled? I don't think that I did any damage to the sled by riding it, but any ideas? I just want this new sled to be perfect.

Thanks,
Zack

My buddies 2000 Srx does the same thing. Its does not flash on and off like a trouble code should. It acts more like something isn't getting a good connection. If I had a factory service manual I could take my Ohm meter and test the electrical system.

The sled does this immediatley on startup so I know it's not overheating(The heat exchangers a the heads are still cool to the touch)

I posted this question earlier and someone said it was the temp sensor itself.

see if the wires to the temp sensor are broken or shorted. Also check if the main wiring harness is shorted under the engine, that is very common. It should blink 3 times at startup to let you know the system is functioning.

Same Problem

Yamaholic hit the nail on the head.

I had exactly the same trouble two years ago with my 2000 SRX. Wiring harness under the motor just below the recoil was worn through and shorting out.

I finally noticed it at night.

heres another thing

the wiring harness is a good thing to check out, also does the water temp blink 3 times when you first strt up the sled? the 2000 srx was also known for bad oil level sensors, they would flicker even though the tank would be full, there was a service bulletin on this, your sure its not the oil level light right?
