What sled looks like after going through a gate...IF YOUR LUCKY!

Ok guys, here is the srx, out for the third time of teh season, going through a field i frequently went through last year, came over a hill at about 45-50 mph, teh farmer piled about a 2ft high pile of dirt right on teh otehr side, I hit it, went airborn, threw me half way off the sled, came down, landed on one ski, was on the brake hard, looked upa dn the sled was heading right for the gate at the end of the field, so i bailed, and the rest is history.....

Mehh, i guess it coulda been alot worse, my budy with a cat had a worse day. Had to tow his sled 6 miles after the chain snapped, and about 1/2 mile from his house, the steering linkage broke into about 3 pieces! Felt really bad for him then, broken chain, snapped steering linkage, and getting PULLED by a yamaha that went through a gate that should broken the snot out of it, and took a 4ft drop off all without skipping a beat! Never even died!!!!

nope, just scratched up teh hood pretty good, but didnt crack it, or break anything, thats why i figured i was lucky, as she hit HARD

it could have been a big pile of manure and not dirt .....that wouls of been real sh[^y....scratches are easy to fix....broken bones..not so easy.
It's good to hear you were not hurt but I could understand your heart breaking looking at a beautiful Yamaha all scratched up.

I took off around 11:00 in the morning and rode. I went thur a section of trail that is a open field, trail is marked pretty good and I ride it every year.

Later that night I meet up with a bunch of family and friends. We had 10 sleds, about 2 miles from town we went across the same field. A trial that we rode for years was plowed for irrigation that afternoon. My uncle broke a rib, my cusin launch is wife up about 10-15 feet, she broke a arm and it was a abulance call and we took 4 sleds home on the trailer.

When you ride a trail for years and you know the 3-4 mile stretch of smooth field riding you sure dont expect anything like that. We all came up to the field and started the race like we do every year.

ouch, sorry to hear about that family man, hope everyone is doing ok, that is definately unfortunate

I'm on the soap box now. I hear everyone is riding areas they "KNOW" without checking for changes first. Slow the &*)( down, LEARN the area you are riding, as nothing stays the same, and be safe. The best way I can put it is this. I ride a certain dirtbike trail many times a year. 30 miles of WFO on a CR500. Every time I go out, I ride it slow first, and behold, I removed 6 trees that had fallen over the trail. Had I been riding normally, 2 of them were at neck height...

yup, I do agree, but everyone has done it a time or two, you probably have also. I wont be doign it again, let me tell you that, so youc an get off yoru soap box now! LoL

RC, i think you cursed me man. After you said you hope I run into a pole I had the worst day of riding. First one of my 8" aluminum wheels shattered someone, so I cut it off the a grinder and went riding. Then my helmet started falling apart someone, fixed it up and was headed home. I was going over a hill following a track so I figured it would be safe. Came down and I hit a metal pole. Thanx Bud!

Man, that really sucks! Glad you´re ok though! Could have been worse, MUCH worse!

3 years ago we were riding in the eastern border of Finland. 2 of my friends and I. I was leading with a SR-V. So, there was a opening, and ofcourse I pinned it. I was going about 130 kmh when I noticed that someone had plowed a road right across the trail. No time for brakes. I took off really nicely and had time to count up to 5 before I landed, still onboard the SR-V. Well, the lights went out from the sled, and the seat came off. Otherwise it was ok. I wasn´t. My back hurt for 4 months after that... Tough sled though!

I agree with you about slowing down. It was just that I was there earlier that day. There arent fences, there wasnt anything around, just a nice bean field for crusing. We were going but maybe 50-60 tops.

Doesnt get much slower ;)!

I think you should get a custom paint job on the hood you have since it isn't damage. The hood on ebay is cheap, but it is damaged as well.

theres 2 of them on there the 98 srx 700 hood looks pretty good. i dont have the patience for sanding and painting myself but if it were me i would pick the best of the 2 for now and take my damaged hood to a custom graphic and paint shop and have the good hood to ride for now. not that he cant still ride it the way it is but thats just me. after thats all done i would have a good spare
