Does any-one know a good set-up for the front springs on an sxr700, for good trail and powder riding. I got mine used and the previous owner has em adjusted so far that 6 0f the coils are compressed together. Went for small ride the other day and noticed the skis definately dig in. But would i want them that stiff on powder, he used to ride packed trails

those 6 coils aren't packed together from running the springs too tight, that is the way the springs are made, they are called dual rate springs and that is the way they are. The idea is that softer rate of the spring is used on impact of most bumps, and then the stiffer second rate contributes on the big hits. I have the springs on my '01 sx 700r almost all the way cranked, maybe 1/2" of thread left and love it set up like that, turns awesome with a lot of ski pressure and takes hits well.

I have a 01 700r and run mine pretty soft (with ski off the ground i can move the spring around) I like that

reason i originally tightened mine up so much was because i put C&A's on, which drop the ride height at least an inch, and i wanted that back so i tightened them up, but then i was pleasantly surprised with how much better it digs in the corners, much more positive and quicker steering.

I cranked my front suspension this year as well as the front rear and cant wait to try this out.
Probably a good thing to get more ski pressure when riding agressive in the corners.

I guess maybe i should say i haven't rode on trails with it soft i just foud that when it was set stiff that in the corners iy wuld lift the inside ski (doesen't work well for me )

you're right it will lift a little more ski because the ride height is taller. But ski pressure is much improved, and i would rather have ski lift than understeer, you can compensate for ski lift with some body english
