so i will be replacing my track.
I understant that the easiest wat to get the drive shaft "out of the way" is to do the following:
pull driven clutch
remove speedo box
remove chain case cover
remove bottom gear
slide shaft to left
release set screws and replace left bearing ( preventative maintenance)
drop right side of shaft to remove track
(do all the suspension disassembly... been there)
replace track
reassemble
now............
is there a spring clip that needs to be removed
is there a similar bearing on the crank case side? should it be replaced, or is it bathed in gear lube
any other things I should know
I'm and enginerd so I catch on quick, jsut have not disassebled this on my srx before
thanks

looking at the exploded view. I now remember that the right bearing is in the case housing....
so, will the shaft just slide to the left then, if the speedo housing is removed??
thanks

personally i think it is much easier to just pull the chaincase out, much easier to move the drive shaft around.

can't even imagine the headache if the chain case doesn't come off first.....

been there and tried that....do yourself a favor and just pull the chaincase.
I tried for about 1 hour last year when I replaced my track and I ended up pulling the case.

Remove the whole back of the chaincase housing. Make sure that you get new jackshaft bearings and set screws for re-assembling it. It will cost you around $35. I just replace my track and had a bear of a time getting the back of the chaincase housing free. It takes alot of even pressure all around the housing to get it to break free.
good luck

just make sure all of the bolts are out (four of them) and shake it like hell and it will come out. Make sure you are pulling the brake disk with the chaincase or the parking brake pads will cause that to bind on the jackshaft. Very easy to pull the case.

bring the key on the jackshaft to the top where you can see it (key for brake disk) and be sure not to drop it into belly pan..... they disappear forever!
make sure you loosen your track all the way before taking off the chaincase. the case will then pull off fairly easily

you know i just did a track swap last weekend in a viper, and working ALONE, it took me 2.5 hours exactly start to finish, from the time i shut it off to the time i had it running again. I just couldn't believe i got it done that fast working alone, usually putting in the suspension takes awhile alone. Defianately a record for me.

Hardest thing for us when doing mine a couple weeks ago was getting the brakes back on... those springs are a pain in the arse.
Yes Rob, you need to take the brake calipers off also... and like I told you yesterday, just take the entire chain case off.... no short cuts!
And you don't need to tell us you're an engineer. We can tell from your spelling, grammar and punctuation. LOL!!!!

Which springs are a pain? You mean for the parking brake? You dont have to pull the parking brake to take the chaincase off, and its much easier if you dont

NOW you tell me! LOL!!! Yeah, that one just wouldn't go back on... kept popping off when trying to get the bolts back in.
