I found a small, gell cell 12v, 5.5 amphour battery at Batteries Plus. Checked with Garmin, use an inline fuse and no problem. But I'm going to go one step further. I have access to cig. lighter plugs (both ends, male and female) and am going to add a plug to my sled. Only question I really have is where to put the battery? It measures about 7"x3"x4" (L W H) at the most. I can make a bracket and rivit it in place, but where?
I like this battery choice because it's re-charbeable just like a car battery (as long as you use the low amp setting on your charger) and will run my hand held GPS for an entire weekend no problem.
I have a plan for the GPS mount so that's not a problem.

Not sure if it's the same setup under the hood as mine, but there should be enough room between the exhaust pipe and the vent wall (i.e. plastic) where you right foot goes (where the pull cable is). Actually behind the 'S' on the side of my sled. It's a tight fit, but the dealer installed it there.
