Chain Tension on a Viper

I am putting the chain case back together on my Viper and I read that the way to set the chain tensioner is to turn the adjustment bolt in by hand till it stops and tighten the lock nut. I did this but it seems the chain is too tight. Thanks.
 

I like to adjust it BEFORE I put the cover back on, I adjust it till the backside of the chain has about 3/4"-1" of movement back and forth, this lets the chain run loose enuff and doesnt make the whine noise as much, less resistance when rolling, works great.
 
I do it just as MrViper stated, has worked flawlessly for me in about 20,000 miles, no chaincase issues for me yet, knock on wood.
