I was wondering how much can I shave off my heads on a 1997 v-max 500? And which direction do I go with the jets? Are there any risks? I want to shave off a little but dont want to be in the danger zone. :yam:

ok this is what u do. get ur set a good pair of calipers or micormerts. then u take ur plugs out and grab a pice of NON flux core solder 3 per clynider. bend them at a 90 and stick them in sparkplug holes and then spin ur clucth and sqush the solder. then measher all the pices and make sure they are all close. take the smallest measurment and subtrack 50 thousands. there has to be atleast a 50 thosunads gap between teh head and the piston. u take that measurment and if u havent done the head gasket mod yet split the gaskets and measure the 2 that ur gonna get rid off. or if uve already done it and dont have the old gaskets measur one of them and times it by 2. they should be liek 9 thousands a piece. then take that measurment and subtract that from the measurment that uve already done and subtracted 50 and that will give u the absolute most u can shave off. personly id only take i think it was like 8 or 10 off my 500 same year realy woke her up. use to run with the 600 twins and and the stock 600 triple non powervale yamies. i didnt rejet. and there is a slight risk but not that bad i put over 2000 on mine with no problem. and id do ur rings while u were in there. u have to run atleast 93 octane in it tho and octane boost wouldnt hurt u if u want that extra insurence. my broterh did his sled i did mine adn my curent sled was done befor i bought it. ive been happy with all of them so far. we got the tolorences from a head yamie technision at ronnies befor he moved.
