I bought what was supposed to be a new head gasket for my sx 700 off ebay. Part number 8ch-11351-00. This number doesnt jive with the online parts number, and is only 2 layers. It is also missing the rivet that bonds the layers together, but there is no hole either for the rivet, wtf. Is theere a factory 2 layer gasket?

Sounds to me like you bought someones left over stock gasket after they removed the rivet and peeled one layer off and installed it on their sled. A couple years ago a buddy of mine bought a single layer one off eBay that was supposed to be a "high perf gasket, only to this find out. Are both gaskets made of the same material ? Soc

Does it look like the little extension that contains the rivet has been cut off? If so sockeyerun is right. If not it may be aftermarket like stated above. Or it's just plain the wrong gasket lol... but as long as it fits on the studs and everything looks O.K. try it and see if it works.

Well, if it was a tripple layer, where the rivet should be is a perfectly smooth radius. This was supposedly new, are they black when new? My intentions were to remove middle layer in my original, and keep this as a spare in case of a leak with the modified one.

Thanks guys, ends up it is a base gasket, not head gasket, im gonna contact the seller, see if we can come up with a fix for this error on his behalf.

boondoctor,

I have a used head gasket from my 700SX if you need it. I was just removed when I did my top end so its been used once at the factory. All three layers in place.

Tod, i will let you know, waiting for a reply from the seller, he has been selling lotsa Yamaha parts, so im hoping that we will work something out. It was such a smoking deal, 10.50 is what the price was supposed to be on a new headgasket.

10.50 is definately a steal for a new headgasket, if that is the right gasket. Usually they will run you $31-33 per cylinder for the headgaskets on the non-pv 700.
