I had 5K miles on the sled so I pulled the cylinders off and changed pistons/rings and sent the jugs off and had them ported by Don. I put everything back together and started it up. It sounded like it was down a cylinder because It had a deep drone sound and no throttle response/Bad bog from 3-7k. But seemed fine at WOT and pulled 9,200 rpms. I went through the carbs about 5 times. Testing around the yard the plugs looked "OK" Took it out for a WOT run and it immediately burned the PTO piston down. Melted down the exhaust side. Sent the jug and piston back to Don, He honed it out and I put a new piston in. Put it back together and it still sounds the same/bogs. If I stab the gas under 3K it just dies. Any ideas on what to check? I've played around with jetting and it doesn't seem to make any difference. current jetting is
47.5-47.5-50 pilots, all clips in 4th position with 1 washer above clip and one below on pto and mid, and both washers under on mag. 160-160-162.5. fuel screw set at 2.5 on all.
Give me some ideas to check?????? Any ideas? I'm at a complete loss........
PS i've removed all sharp objects from the garage.... for now......

put 50's in the pilots and run the screws at 2.5, your lean(pilot circuit), thats why the bog. put needles at 3rd clip with both washers under the clip.
Still laughing about the sharp object in the garage....lol

Thanks for the call last night Don. I through in 50 pilots and set the screws at 2.5 and its a lot better. Still a little bog off idle. I'll try playing with the screws a little more to see if I can get it to go away.

there is also 52.5 pilots
theres always 52.5 pilots as well, ya gotta feed all that power.....lol
Like I had mentioned, once you get to about 2.5-2.75 out on the screw, ya kinda need to go to the next size in pilot jet.
turn out your screws to 2.75 and see if it solves it.
clutching has alot to do with how much pilot jet youll need, the harder you are working the motor, the more fuel you will need, so it sounds like to me, you are putting a good deal of work on her right off the bat. there is nothing wrong with that, its just you have to fine tune her in (carbs)a wee bit.

Already ordered the pilots Also ordered 2 162.5 mains and 1 165 main to test out. Since I seem so lean on the pilots do you think it's a good idea to bump the mains as well?

ok, good
once ya get it to leave with no hesitation, I would look at the needles, just do some runs at half throttle for about 5-600ft, then shut it off, pull the plugs and look at plugs and piston tops, look for the even coloring like I told you about, see if you see any wetness of piston.
After you get that tuned in move to wide open runs, same distance but WOT, and do the same thing all over again.
It wont hurt anything to have those mains in your tool box, you may need them, you may not, the pluga and pistons wont lie to you.
just keep some notes, so if theres a problem, or wettness of the piston at 1 time and not the other, I can help you solve the problem.
