Hi everyone, I've been all over and I haven't found any help yet. I've got a 97 vmax 700 sx, and about a few weeks ago a bearing (or two) on the crankshaft burned up. Those of you who are familier will know that each main journal has two ball bearings stacked together for support. The only bearing set that are damaged are on the stator end of the shaft. Because they are easily accessable I could change them myself. Here's the problem, the new bearing is updated from the original set up, it's now a double wide roller setup. I've been told this new design requires a dowel to be installed in the case to locate the outer race. i've also been told new oiling holes have to be machined in the case to matc up with those in the bearing. Has anyone done this work before?
I know of the dowel but not of the case mod. The reason for the dowel is the bearing walks out and pushes the seal oout and cause it to burn down. You may want to call Larry at North Country Yamaha on this one but I ma pretty sure there is no case mod for the oil ...715-453-2626

Greenhorn I just recently put my 98 crank in a 97 case which is different .It does need the dowel pin. No oil hole modifications are needed.
