Hey guys, I called State Farm to get insurance on my 02 SXViper.

The lady said that they could not insure it because it was on the list of sleds that they are not able to insure.

What is that all about? Is it because its a 700 triple? Whats the deal!

State Farm insured mine with no issues. O3 Mtn.
Just switched to allstate, also no issues.

Have 2 '98 SRX700's insured right now through SF... not Vipers, but essentially the same thing afa the insurance co's are concerned (I would think). Sounds like you are getting hozed by the local SF agent. I can ask my agent about the "02 Viper is taboo" thing if you'd like... just lmk.

Sure if you don't mind, I'd like to know if they even have a "won't insure" list.

Shot her an email... she always gets back to me pretty quick (so tomorrow morning sometime). Will lyk what she says.

sorry for my ignorance, but what are the main reasons you insure an older sled? damage to others, damage to property?

i wouldn't even THINK about riding a sled without AT LEAST liability. You out there and get in an accident and injure someone else, they could take everything you have away if you aren't insured.

tungsten,

My agent got back to me this AM and she said that she has never heard of a list of uninsurable sleds being issued from SF, so there ya go. Maybe that agent is a Cat/Doo/Po backer and didn't like your Yami sled ;)

lol, yea that sounds like a much more logical answer :yam:

I live in upstate NY and I pay 130 a year for full coverage on my Viper, The only sled I had issuses with getting quotes were the new 1000 cc four strokes. If you get the policy through your insureance where you already have other policies then they will write you one on a sled that is resonable. When I called around for my quotes all the other companies that I had no other policies with gave me very high quotes. My currant company won't write a policy on a sled bigger than 701 cc.

Allstate said they would not insure me because I did not have anything else insured with them.

That's the issue, it isn't the sled it's that the insurance co's will not usually insure a sled, PWC, etc unless you have another policy like auto or homeowners insurance.

I had AllState about 3 years ago and they would not insure my 03' viper. he said no sleds 700cc and over. Also mentioned the list. I have MetLife now just because I couldn't find anyone to insure the sled. I pay $180 a year on the 03' Viper ER.

At that time you should have pointed out that the Viper is a 696cc machine not a 700 or greater, your Allstate agent was also feeding you a line of bullshit about not insuring vipers because they(Allstate) just wrote me a policy on mine.
