Hey everyone i am posting for a friend he has a 1999 srx 700 and the the temperature light is flashing i tried to understand the diaognostics codes in the tech pages but they just have it for the 2000srx and was wondering if they are the same as the 1999 srx.
Here is the strange thing at idle it will blink 1 long then 4 short when you get on to the throttle it will flash 7 times. The motor is not dhot to the touch and i also have a 1999 SRX with bolt ons and my motor is always hotter to the touch than his. Any input would be much appreiated.

well sounds like ya got 2 issues here, the first code(7 flashes) you describe is the servo motor for the power valves, its either shorted out or the valves are stuck. The easiest way to see if its working is to put the sled up on a stand, then remove the 3 little bolts from the cover, start up sled and turn the idle down under 900rpm, this will cycle the valves, if it doesnt you need to see if theres power going to the servo motor or not, if there isnt start to trace the signal wire back to cdi box.
the 2nd code which you describe is that of the water temp sensor on the water rail, it shows its either out of spec or short circuit.
Check the above the way I described first, but alot of times when you start getting multiple codes, its a chaffed wire harness under the motor, and it shorts stuff out when it contacts the frame, it only takes 1 strand of copper from a wire to do this.

sure seems to be A LOT of these questions this year about electrical problems. 99% of them will be a chaffed wire in the main harness running under the engine on the mag side.

Thank-you very much guys for replying i really think it is the wires under the motor because we cleaned these power values and i could not believe how clean they were compared to mine, I had carbon deposits on mine and he did not have any.
