Do the electric shields have a gas in them that would cause it not to work properly if the seal is broke? Also could you run a jumper wire from the top defroster loop to the bottom?

i dont know if they have a gas in them, but the seal is important because it doesn't allow any condensation between the double lens to cause fogging. They really work great for stopping fogging. Several of them in our group, personally i wear goggles with an ACX2 open face.

There is no gas in your shield. There is a very thin coating of copper on the inside of the shield (the side closest to your face). + is connected to one side of this copper plate and - to the other side. Resistance in the copper causes the copper coating to get warm, melting any frost buildup. If you use any chemicals to clean the inside of the shield, you will destroy the copper coating. Never use paper towels or tissue to clean your shield either, as both are very abbrasive. Only use cloth.

Roger got it right. Its basically the same as the rear window defrosters that some cars, vans and SUVs have.
The only way that a heated shield should fail is if one of the wires in the shield breaks.
