im posting this for my buddy. his wifes sled sounds like its running on fowled plugs no matter what u do. cleaned carbs, changed plugs and disconected the tors. the sleds passed a compresion test and the piston looks fine threw the spark plug holes. both cylinerds get warm. im stumped and so is he. hes done every thing put pull the motor. the only thing we can see is the pto side exaust flange is leaking some oil. it seems to run fine on a stand but as son as u get on to ride it dogs out till 6 grand and then has the power of like if it was at 4 grand.

any ideas?

thanks in advacne TRT

When you cleaned the carbs did you take out the pilot jets and blow some air thru everything. When it is bogging at low rpms, flip the choke on for a second and see if it goes away. If so you are lean - dirty pilot jets.

I had a bad bog and it was a quick fix once i found out it was just bad spark plug caps. otherwise it sounds like clutches.

its gettin good spark on both plugs tho. this on has me stumped. ill check the clutches again realy go threw them. think it could be the cdi? im gonna grab the one of my vmax 500 to check it. i wasnt the one who cleaned the carbs but im pretty sure he did a very thuro job. other then that were gonna have to pull the head and take a look and then the cylinders which he and i realy dont wanna do.

thanks for the input

sounds like either dirty pilots or more likely something binding or wore in the clutches. The 5 and 600 twins are a lot harder on clutch components than the triples because of the harmonics of the engine. They frequently destroy weights and rollers, and wear bushings quicker on the cover and sliding sheave. Get those carbs out and check the pilots, make sure you can see through them when looking into the light as well.

Mine was getting good spark too, but when i closed the hood half of the spark was arcking off of something on the inside of the hood. It would also get bad when in deep snow, i think cause of the water getting under the hood.

sounds liek clutching, air problems, could be the jets(check again), exhaust backup. exhaust backup isnt too uncommon. it happened to my brother on his sxr last year. we just cleaned it out and it ran great again. im not saying thats whats the mater with yours but it wont hurt to check up on it. Just figured id say what ive heard of. good luck man.
