Hello !

I was just curious what the GAS priezes are in the USA & Canada ?

Here in SWEDEN we have awful expensive GAS prices..... :o| :o| :o|

We have 3 kinds of GAS qualitys here in SWEDEN

* 95 Octane ( PON ) 11,50 SKr / Litre --> 5,45 US $ / Gallon
* 98 Octane ( PON ) 12,00 SKr / Litre --> 5,70 US $ / Gallon
* 99 Octane ( PON ) 12,50 SKr / Litre --> 5,91 US $ / Gallon

1,0 gallon = 3,785 Litre

1,0 US $ = 8,0 SKr

I have to believe the octane ratings are different there than here. You won't find a pump here with higher than 93 octane for passenger vehicles.

Octane numbers....

Hello !

In Sweden the gas station pumps show the octane in RON .

In USA + Canada the gas station pumps show the octane in PON .

RON = Research Octane Number

PON = Pump Octane Number

95 ( RON ) = 90 ( PON )
98 ( RON ) = 93 ( PON )

Actually our gas is rated by an averaging method, the (R+M)/2 method. It is an average of the research octane number (RON) and the motor octane number (MON). In high performance, high revving engines the MON is more important to look at, and the closer the MON is to the RON, the more stable the fuel is.

Yes. Typically the US has three octanes - 87, 89, 91/92. Premium with ethanol is usually 92 octane, Non-oxygenated premium is usually 91 octane. Of course, now there's also E85 for some vehicles (certainly not snowmobiles) which is 85% ethanol and is about $1.65 per gallon.

Yes.... The E85 we also have !

But not for snowmobiles !!

As I remember, everything is pretty expensive in Sweden, not just gas. I remember 2 years ago spending about $110 US equiv to fill up a VW Toureg, ouch. And a beer at a bar cost me about 8 bucks, reighndeer steak (awesome) cost about $50. I remember having a few dinners on my expense acount that were in the range of $130 for just myself, hehehehe, but that did include a "few" beers.

Lasse - Where in Sweden are you from?
