Is there a way to remove the trail permit from my broken windshield so I can put it on one I'm going to purchase? I've gotten some good responses and several choices from TY members on windshields so it looks like this is going to happen....

Current sticker (06) is unfortunately stuck to the windshield. BUT, it is stuck onto the old one ( the 05 sticker). So, I was thinking I may be able to peal the old one off without damaging the new one stuck to it.... then using some glue (I have lots of glues at my disposal... automotive company and all...) to put it back on my sled (and NOT on the windshield!!!).

Any other ideas? Will Michigan give you a new one if your current one is "destroyed" or stolen???

I cut broken piece with sticker and put it in my pocket along with the receipt for the new windshield. I did get stopped and he told to be sure I kept receipt on me at all times. Wouldn't hurt to keep a pic of broken windsheild with you either.

I would think if it were on the older sticker, there's no way they'd have any idea that it was ever removed and replaced.

Yes, but, if I try to remove it from the broken windy, am I going to wreck the new one? It has to come off... somehow! I just don't want to wreck the new one trying to get them off. I'm thinking a good thin putty knife and some heat would do the trick... ???

use a single edge razor blade and a blow dryer - should loosen it up and be able to reapply without any additional glue.

If i remember right, make sure too pull from the older one first. It leaves a silver void print on the sheild, but you should be ok if you start on a older one.How many others is underneth the new???

I cut around the sticker with a band saw, with the broken windshield still behind the sticker and clipped it to the top of my new windshield with 2 binder clips. Then I put Michigan’s sticker on the other side. Now all I have to do is flip it around when I cross the boarders. I do not have 2 stickers displayed, only one at a time and I can remove it if necessary. I have been doing this for 3 years now.

With my luck I'd loose it that way!! LOL!!!

There are two stickers on the current windy. I think I can get the old one to peal off under the new one without damaging the new one too bad... time will tell.

Thanks for the ideas guys.

heat it with the blow dryer from the inside, that way it loosens the old one first. Maxdlx

you cannot do the remove trick with most permits, it is a two stage decal, you remove it, and the underlayment will read VOID everywhere on the decal. now it looks like you are trying to scam the system.

this is exactly why you NEVER, EVER, PUT A TRAIL PERMIT OR REGISTRATION DECAL ON THE WINDSHIELD. what is the first thing that breaks in a rollover? what if you have low, mid and high widshields and change them repeatedly for comfort while riding?

the decals adhesives clean up alot better on the hood finish than any windshield too.

the above suggestion for cutting the the shield around the decal and carrying it and the reciept for the new shield is the best idea. ski
