I just ported my younger brother's 2000 SXr 700 with race logic's sport port templates the other week. We raised the compression a little by doing the headgasket trick, which brought it back up to at least 110 psi on all 3 cylinders. The exhuast main gets raised quite a bit, which meant loosing low end. So far, we definately lost low end. Throttle response is still crisp, but without the horsepower on low end. We still have the 3 into 1 pipe on it, and it is a day and night difference from stock! My other brother has a cpr piped viper which runs fantastick, and would always toy with the sxr. Now, the sxr is only a LITTLE slower on top end than the piped viper, and gives it a serious short run! I would guess it would beat a stock viper. He put the whoopin's on a new pro-x the other day (bad!ha ha!) We had to resort to aftermarket primary springs to help the low end out, but I can't believe what an improvement it made, especially w/the stock 3 into 1 setup! If you can stand to loose your low end, I would say this works awesome! He is going to see about putting triple pipes on it next, but I'm curious what the low end will be like then. We'll be going on a trip to Canada this sunday, so we'll see how things go gas milage-wise.

If you had your head shaved and chambers reshaped to get the compression up to the 125-135 psi range I would think you would get your horsepower back on the low end. I always thought compression gives you torque. Correct me if I am wrong.

For our trip we will just run it as is, but when we get back, we will probably raise it to 125-130ish. 110 is for whimps, but if you get cheap gas, it is forgiving.

You have a lot more than 110 psi stock--3 steps forward, but 2 back based on what you are saying

I would be very carefull with the one layer head gasket, the squish is getting to a critical point where you could end up with detination so it is a case of spending a little money now or alot later.

If it were me, I would have already done something about his new squish clearance, but he's going to run it as it is since it hasn't had a problem yet. I'm more paranoid about things like this than him. Hopefully it will live, otherwise guess who'll be towing him back!
