HEY MAN,, its an ANCIENT CHINESE SECRET!!!!!! Don't blow it!!!!! Gary Oles nosboy
One reason is it is hard to get in canada. As to Yamama lube in canada you can't get the synthetic 2-stroke oil. I have run Motul since i got my sled have 4200km on it and no problems yet. t has been into the dealer for power valve setting every 1500km(got to keep beating my friends rev). other than that gas oil and go.

another 1,000 miles and gunked up again - it probably is the gas - I will have to go on a 500 mile routine now.
forgive me for sounding stupid but being a newbie.. How do you check and clean the valves??

Yamaha makes an addative called ring free which will help keep powervalves clean!!
I wasn't sure if you still should take them apart and clean them when you use the ring clean or not..

definitely take them apart and clean if yhou use ring free. i use ring free and 2s and my valves are clean. but i started doing it myself because the last time the dealer did it it was adjusted too tight and pulled my cables, valves were clean. cost me 3 valves and 1 cable. it's easy too clean (see tech section) and if i screw it up it's my fault and wont feel so bad about buying valves. i had about 1500 mi on them when last pulled apart.
