Guys I've got to split the base on my wifes 97 600 twin, never done it before, any tips would be appreciated. Could I possibly mess up the timing once I get it apart by putting the flywheel on wrong or is there only one way it will go? Don't know what to expect when I do get it apart. Looks likeI have to remove the water pump assembly also. All this just to replace the pto side crank seal. I found the other day after I pulled the primary clutch that the seal had come apart and was spinning around on the end of the crank.

97's are simple, you can't mess up any timing so don't worry about it. Everything goes together one way, watch the locating pins on the crank when you put it back together. Keep in mind if the seal was pushed out most likely the PTO outer bearing race was walking off the crank and you'll need to replace that too.
