hey all,

merry christmas! just got out of work, and decided to start the sled for the first time in a while. out of curiosity decided to feel how hot the heads were getting. noticed that the outer 2 were noticably warmer than the middle one, and then decided to feel the exhaust pipes. coming off the outer 2 they were piping hot, and the middle one was still cold to the touch.......

sled is 99 srx700

i didnt think that a triple would run on only 2 cylinders? unplugged the middle wire and it ran the same. unplugged the exhaust side wire and it ran worse, but still ran. pulled all 3 plugs and they looked the same. put in another set for the hell of it, and ran a bit better, but i couldnt tell with the heat difference because the engine was already warmed up by this point. what do i do now?

checked spark and compression when i first got the sled, and it was fine. not running any different than it was the day i got it

you getting spark to the plug? if you have an automotive timing light they work great for checking power in your spark plug wires-- just need to hook it up to a 12v battery.

you need to first verify if you have spark on that cylinder, then go from there. Pull the plugs, plug them in, and allow the electrode to ground on one of the head bolts or something else non-painted or powdercoated, pull it over and see if you have spark on all three. If you have spark, then go to fuel delivery (CLEAN CARBS), etc.

well thanks guys, i do have spark. decided that i am finally in over my head and i dropped it off with this guy that my buddy recommended. gonna have him check it out along with my spedometer issue. goin up to pitsburg NH on jan. 6th, so i wanna get the thing 100% before i go

If the speedo quit, check the drive shaft bearing, it is probabbly bad, and that will ruin a trip. Maxdlx
