I went to change the fuel filter in my tank and was able to fish out the line but the hose is too short to get the filter out past the filler neck. The only way I can do this is to take apart the adapter where the line goes into the tank and pull the hose out there while having a hold of the filter from the top of the tank at the filler. Then I'm thinking I will have to disconnect the line there at the adapter and pull it out the top. Then I will put in a longer line so I won't have to go through this again. Does this sound like the right way to go about this? I'm working on a 99MM 600.

i just changed one on a 97 700sx. i fished the filter as far as i could to the top of the tank. then yanked the filter off , pulled the adapter where it goes into the tank out, put the new filter on, slid it thru the top and out the adapter hole. then just reconnect.

should be abel to do it through the gas cap hole.
Maybe yours is wraped around the fuel gage.
Pull out the splash guard. fish out the hose. pinch some vise grips on the line so it does not fall back in. Pull the filter. intall the new one and drop back in tank.
Just did this on my 700sx.

I was thinking of putting a in a longer hose when I go to change mine as it only needs to be a few inches longer. I wonder though if it will lay in the tank right and not interfere with the float.
