someone on the parts forum (sj) say that pod filters instead of the stock airbox will hurt throttle response and make you lose performance. He also says a gutted airbox would work better. any truth to this?

I think filters are bad, (imho) they will suck in warmer air then the air box will, also it don't let the vacuum to be created in the airbox which is partly required for better throttle response at idle/low speed...... anyone else have any ideas?? maybe you could put the filters inside the gutted air box would be better.....

i got some K&N's with boost bottle and reeds, my throttle is outstanding. this is on a 2001 srx and my buddies 2000 srx can't hang with me on the bottom end

same old debate: is more air from filters (warm air) better than a little less air from air box (colder air)???
only your sled, with your mods, and your riding conditions will dictate.
for me up in the higher altitudes and deeper snow pods didn't work. too much snow ingestion, too much frickin with my jetting when you get snow on the pipes (steam fattens em up quick and boggs bad).
stock airbox with Mad Max airbox mod is the best setup IMO for my application on MM700.

My vote says run the airbox. I could go on and on, but in short you can make them run about the same, but more people run an airbox, and that makes for less research, and easier updates. I wouldnt run filters, but would like the convenience of Jet changes.

FILTERS OR NOT
IF YOU READ THE ARTICLE ON THE TECH PAGE REGAURDING THIS YOU WILL SEE WHY THE BOX IS BETTER. AS THE REEDS SLAM SHUT THE AIR RUSHING TOWARDS THEM AT TREMENDOUS SPEED IS SUDDENLY STOPPED, WHICH CAUSES A COMPRESSION AS WELL AS A PRESSURE WAVE TO TRAVEL BACK INTO THE BOX UNTIL THEY REACH A BARRIER AT WHICH POINT THE PRESSURE WAVE TRAVELS BACK TOWARDS THE CARBURETORS, THE NET EFFECT IS THAT AT A CERTAIN RPM THE AIR RUSHING TOWARDS THE REEDS ALREADY HAS A POSITIVE PRESSURE AND AIDES IN CYLINDER FILLING WHICH WILL CREATE AN INCREASE IN TORQUE. THERE IS A GREAT DEAL OF ENGINEERING THAT GOES INTO THE SHAPE/VOLUME DESIGN OF THE AIR BOX TO COORDINATE WITH MANY OTHER FACTORS TO CREATE AN OVERALL PACKAGE THAT PERFORMS AS WELL AS THE SRX DOES.
